Choir folders are $20 each/Band folders $25 each. You can pay by cash or cheque (made payable to Cariboo Hill Secondary).
I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break! I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone and getting back into rehearsals. As always, September is a busy time. There are a few items which will require your attention:
- please obtain your instruments as soon as possible so that we can begin rehearsals right away. Speak to me a.s.a.p if you would like to rent an instrument from Cariboo
- student contracts will be handed out in class. Please sign and return these as soon as possible.
- Senior Band will begin Thursday, September 6, and Choir will begin Friday, September 7
We have a busy concert season ahead of us! Please note the following information regarding our three year-end performances (School Leaving Ceremony, Spring Concert, and Jazz Night):
School Leaving Ceremony
It is Cariboo Hill tradition to have our Senior Concert Band perform for our grads at the Leaving Ceremony. This year, I would like to invite the Junior Band members to join us. They will help fill in some holes in instrumentation (our graduating music students do not play with us on this day), and it will be a nice opportunity for our Grade 9 students to perform with the seniors who they will be joining next year. This is not mandatory for the Junior Band, however, efforts to attend will be greatly appreciated.
Date: Sunday, May 27
Location: Bill Copeland Sports Complex (3676 Kensington Ave.)
Time: students will need to arrive for a sound check at 12:00pm. The ceremony begins at 2:00pm, and should be done by 3:30pm.
Dress: all-black ((including black shoes and socks!)
Please note that the date of our final concert has moved from May 24 to May 30.
Date: Wednesday, May 30
Location: Cariboo Hill Small Gym
Time: Students will need to arrive by 6:30pm; performance begins at 7:00pm
Cost: Admission will be by donation. Snacks and drinks will also be available from our concession.
This year, we will have our first Jazz Night, featuring our Junior Jazz Band and our Senior Jazz Combo. This night will require more set-up and organization than our usual performances. If you are interested in helping-out, please let me know.
Date: Wednesday, June 6
Location: Cariboo Hill Cafeteria
Time: Students will need to arrive by 7:00pm, concert begins at 7:30pm
Dress: black bottom, solid-coloured top (no logos, designs, or patterns).
Cost: $10 per ticket. Tickets will be on sale in May.

Almost one month away from our trip! Please note the following information:
All students who are travelling to Montreal will be required to attend the following two rehearsals:
Tuesday, February 27 3:15-4:30pm
Tuesday, March 13 3:15-4:30pm
Any additional rehearsals that may be required will be held during a lunch-hour with at least one week’s notice. Students are expected to come to these rehearsals with their music well-practiced and prepared. There is simply not enough time for individuals to be learning the music during the rehearsal.
I will be using the Remind app in the coming weeks to pass along any Montreal information to students. I will also use this app during the trip for those students who will have access to wi-fi and/or a data plan.

Parent Meeting Reminder
A reminder that our parent meeting is taking place in the Music Room, Wednesday, February 28 at 6:30pm. It has been changed from the original date (Feb. 21)

Cariboo’s annual Fine Arts Night is next Thursday, February 1st! Here are the details:
Wednesday, January 31:
“cue-to-cue” rehearsal. Meet in the small gym right after school to do a run-through (no instruments required).
Thursday, February 1:
Band students to band room by 6:30pm; choir students in Room 101.
Dress is all black
Concert begins at 7pm in the small gym.
Family and friends welcome (admission by donation)
Forms for our holiday door hangings ($20) and planters ($25) are due NEXT WEDNESDAY! Please hand-in money & forms to Ms. Farbridge.

Tickets are now available for Voices 41, a district performance featuring all Burnaby secondary school choirs. Family and friends are welcome to attend, however, seating is very limited. Tickets are $5 each available from Ms. Brown. Tickets will not be available at the door. Students who are performing will not need to purchase a ticket for themselves.
